Martin Roth
Suite 909 / Epic Waves
Sudbeat

martinAnother outstanding release to see the New Year in with. Berlin based Martin Roth’s acid infused Suite 909 blends sizzling rhythms together with uplifting keys and pulsating tom-toms producing something invigorating and atmospheric in the process. Sahar Z transforms the mood with enlivened percussion and a pacier tempo while retaining hints of the synths plus with additional swirling fx this qualifies as a very addictive remix. Lots of creative sublties here on what is undoubtably an exceptional version – the more you hear it, the better it sounds. Second track, Epic Waves returns to deeper moods with playful sequences of chords and notes aided once again by a rush of pads.

Gantz
Spry Sinister / Rising
DEEP MEDi

To be honest I don’t know how this works, none-the-less it so very clearly does. But for anyone who loves their beats firmly sticking four  to the floor then this could prove tricky to make any sense of. I’ll ignore the time signature (like I know what it is!) so safe to say the awkward, shuffling funkiess of the rhythm section plays havoc to the insanely looped voices and striking piano chord. In ways, Spry Sinister isn’t about music at all. In others, it’s above and beyond. But either way this sounds in space all of its iown. The Istanbul based producer then teams up with El Mahdy Jnr for the next assault on the senses as Rising rolls the beats, accompanied by Eastern flavoured strings and vocals, resulting in further atmospheric distortion.

AV
Mort à Vegas
Police Records

AVI love this. So will you if you’ve ever been into decadently sounding 80’s synth bands with strange names. Adrien Viot aka AV delivers a breathy vocal like his life depends on it containing all the relevant drama amid a sea of delicious syncopated beats and bass, which are on just the right side of sleazy. It’s unashamedly melodic while refreshingly referencing the past musically and even features a twisted guitar solo for extra measure. Mort à Vegas translates as Death In Vegas which brings us neatly on to the excellent remix by Richard Fearless who squeezes that extra bit of emotion out of the music with additional synths and heightened tension. Final track, Hotel Congress is a cover of a Dominique A track which is the darker of the three and even more breathy while again hitting the spot.
