If music is a cultural provocateur, an agent for change, then Filippo Vicario’s brilliant new release for Release LDN is as electrifying as it is radical. Poke, begins via a series of sensory charges igniting the senses as raw, pounding drums gather pace alongside a compelling and edgy array of fierce keyboard sounds, accompanied by an expanse of truth-seeking atmospheres across nine plus minutes. Next, Alba Ipanema gets even more vigorous as its modular rhythms defy gravity together in nervous anticipation, stimulating a dangerous sonic pathway punctuated by a series of excitable voices and fiery snares, amid a rollercoaster of echoes and arpeggios in this most cleverly crafted piece of music. Frink Frenk Frank, then feels a touch deeper again utilising repeating vocals to great effect, this time joined by a smoother roll of drums and bass. The wonderfully titled Orange Juice Dilemma completes the release via more sequences of creatively looped keys plus a rugged sensibility, which is contrasted by a probing, questioning musical flair throughout.
