Each number feels deceptively uncomplicated and it’s that very directness which engages so powerfully here. Each drum beat and percussive flourish seems chosen for full effect, while the atmospheres created are the end result of a fierce interplay with rugged bass and punctuating synth hits. Musically it is in a class of its own distinction, which is saying more than a lot in these days of bland, copycat ideas, yet retains the essence of soul and significance.
