Magazine Sixty Music Review with Alien D

Greg Fenton reviews Alien D – Mediterranean Blue – Digital Artefacts

Is music about finding yourself? Or losing yourself? This morning’s question has two different answers depending on your point of view -each valid. I like to be somewhere in between.

Alien D’s selection of six tracks covers both concepts across a landscape, moving through danceable rhythms such as Celestial Digs to the dislocation of the opening, the explicitly wonderful UFO Love and its cosmic array of finely tuned bliss. A more rugged bassline drives When You Hear the Bell alongside a shuffle of breaks, leaving the closing Blue to exercise its drums into a hypnotic, if familiar, groove washed over by pads and expanding synthesisers. Heartwarming stuff.
