Greg Fenton reviews Aris Kindt – Now Claims My Timid Heart – Quiet Time
The background of this album centres on the highly regarded author Franz Kafka and certain romantic connections that inspire this collection’s haunting, figurative pieces of music. Ranging from the gentle intensity of the European-styled rhythms of Saichh Sequences to the mood-enhancing, reverberating percussion and deep chords of Now Claims My Timid Sight, the album explores a spectrum of colours and invigorating landscapes, twisting and turning through different sonic tales of literary excess. Experience the fiery intensity of the fuzzy guitar informing Shake Loose and Fall one moment, then the melodic refrain of modern dancing across They Have the World Behind Them the next.
Systematic drones are rarely out of sight and their persistent presence is thoroughly tested against the challenges of Time Measures, similarly, on the final Removal Plan with its scene-setting electronics articulating in a series of grainy cause-and-effect fragments. It’s safe to say that this album is a reflection of music celebrating delicacy and resilience.
Aris Kindt is a brilliant collaboration between producer Francis Harris and guitarist Gabe Hedrick.
