Magazine Sixty Music Review with Cala Sola

Greg Fenton reviews Cala Sola – Sense Pressa Avui – The Freebooter Lounge

This is a celebratory album that isn’t afraid to linger in melancholy or dance with joy. Laid‑back may feel like an old term, but it fits: each piece blends the spirit of live instrumentation with electronic textures that deepen the soulful integrity of the music.

Conversations unfold on the haunting A la Deriva, while the shuffle of acidic funk on Campanes complements it perfectly. Cel Precios‑Mas reaches toward a turn‑of‑the‑2000s Balearic swing, infused with beautiful notation and the uncomplicated punch of its drums. Passejada leaves you with a sense of moreishness in abundance.

It’s a wonderful album full of organic expression, blessed with inquiring imagination amid turbulent surrounding realities. Funk, soul, chill‑out, a touch of jazz and swoon — it’s all here.
