From there, A Time And Place widens the palette, moving from the sublime, inquiring atmospheres of Fourteen to the straight‑up funk of Apocalypse, and onward to the elevating serenity of Fly Gray, which shifts the emotional frame entirely. It’s always welcome when an artist stretches their wings, releasing new creative possibilities while maintaining a genuine warmth of engagement. This album feels carefully considered, shaped with attention and intention.
Echoes of jazz — hot and cool — flutter through the captivating The Yellow Butterfly, featuring Steve Waterman, while Harmony Serenade finds Robert Owens delivering one of his finest vocals in some time, still hitting those scorching high notes, with abandon.
Taken together, it’s a record that moves confidently between expressive moods and emotional textures, revealing an artist thinking deeply about his craft.
