Magazine Sixty Music Review with Don Philippe

Greg Fenton review Don Philippe – velvet breaks – Sonar Kollektiv

A world of mystery awaits, populated by smouldering, shadowy figures employing emotion to reignite a decaying past, or so it might seem at first glance. Don Philippe’s carefully crafted, succinct timepieces formed as tracks of music range from the warmly enticing to the less balanced, while always sounding like a warm communication suggesting that quality of memory, time and place always matters.

Mostly built around the notion of reflective Jazz and gorgeous piano accompanied by unhurried drums, this dignified selection of music is as purposeful as it is sincere. If I had to pick a favourite, it would be unravelling, or the effortless swoon of tension (below). Either way, you will get lost inside and much like a rediscovered slice of celluloid, there is beauty to be found.
