Greg Fenton reviews Galcher Lustwerk – Vestibule Remixes EP – Stratasonic

Following the release of the Vestibule EP earlier this year comes a tantalising collection of remixes, each exploring its own distinct mood and rhythmic identity. Ricardo Villalobos opens proceedings with two exceptional reworkings of the title track, with the more forceful VOLPAT Cut 2 emerging as the standout. Here, playful funk meets cool precision as the vocal fragments stretch towards the outer reaches of the mix, taking on an entirely new character. Free-flowing modular sequences intertwine with fluid percussion to create an inventive, organic groove that remains unmistakably human. By contrast, the Atmospheric Mix VOLPAT Cut dispenses with the propelling kick drum, instead focusing on the track’s vocal textures and immersive ambience, where shimmering synths and heavenly keys reveal deeper emotional richness.

Vestibule is also turned upside down by Skee Mask’s bass-heavy, equally killer version, which gradually reveals subtler tonal nuances beneath its surface drama. An instrumental version follows, allowing its intricate production to come into sharper focus. Saoirse then adopts a more traditional approach, teasing out another melodic aspect of Shorty Out that adds to the EP’s welcome diversity. Yaleesa Hall’s electrifying remix further ignites the senses, fuelled by evocative drum breaks and sumptuous, floating keys that elevate the listening experience.
