Magazine Sixty Music Review with KlangKollektor

Greg Fenton reviews KlangKollektor – Dubtapes Volume Two – Before I Die

If you love chords, let’s face it, who doesn’t, then listen to the interplay between keys and bassline on KlangKollektor’s opening salvo from Dubtapes Volume Two. Ferry From Torkwrith – I looked but couldn’t find it – proceeds to supplant memory with melody as perfect piano skims over introspective surfaces, reminding you of the bygone while injecting your soul with the fizz of tomorrow. Put simply, this is a beautifully composed piece of music suited for a lazy morning or an introspective night.

Morning Hour conversely lifts the tempo gently with a charming shuffle of drums again highlighted by timely bass and more than a sprinkle of enlightening keyboards. Starlings searches the skies for meaning, probing a dance of heady atmospheres, leaving the extraordinary blissful nature of the Isle Of Stonsey to complete the picture. This is a great label. This is life-enhancing music, poised and poignant, evoking a sea of West Coast wonder.
