Greg Fenton reviews Orlando Voorn – Numb Denial – Kompakt
Great production by Orlando Voorn, who combines elements of mystery with a touch of classic Acid House and indelible spoken words, all of which leave a brilliant taste. Cruising along the sonic highway for more than seven minutes, this pushes hard against notions of subtlety yet sends flares of rhythm through its sizzling percussion and rumbling bassline.
A likewise excellent instrumental version follows, pushing all the same buttons, while an outstanding Afraid Of The Pain Mix adds the subtleties of additional language alongside a much deeper, more reflective groove that hits home in so many ways. If that wasn’t enough, the OV & Cosmic Collisions Mix again reworks the rhythms and vocals into a further excursion that satisfies the soul and body and, undoubtedly, the mind too. Powered by a sequence of shimmering arpeggios and thought-provoking, creative drums, this is exemplary. When music says something.
