Greg Fenton reviews Ryan Sadorus – Hot in the D – Beretta Music
Let’s cut straight to the chase, which is the low-slung menace generated by the outstanding bass riff driving Nobody’s Fool into a swirl of late-night ecstasy. Accompanied by occasional smoky voices and a pumping bounce of heavy drums, this is one of those turn-it-up moments to savour in its entirety. Closely followed by Delano Smith’s vibrant remix of the title track, Hot in the D, serving a succession of punchy stabs, additional edge and the exhilaration of atmospheric release quality is likewise rest assured. Completing it all is the noteworthy See The Light, contrasting the turbulent beauty of classic Detroit bass with a melodic uplift sought by funky keys, and as with all the numbers included, set against Simon Black’s excelling, smouldering vocals.
