Greg Fenton reviews Seefeel – Sol.Hz- Warp Records
Fifteen years may seem like the blink of an eye, but given the timeless nature of their music, it’s neither here nor there. This continuation of progress is as searing and thoughtfully engaging as ever, while synthesisers speak their innate language in full recognition of the world surrounding the conversation. Edgy, yet defiantly hopeful, or at least blessed with that possible connotation, this album crosses many sonic barriers in terms of how the music sounds and the pleasure of the emotions it plays with – i.e. most.
Always engaged with a sense of play and a quiet disregard for the past, the contemporary is celebrated through passages that traverse musical connotations as much as life-affirming radical impulses. The sounds consume their surroundings, allowing space for thought and suggesting a question-and-answer on more than one occasion. Either way, this makes for a compelling, rigorous exercise in the art of reaction. I love the titles given to each composition, as if the music sings each time you play the next number. Falling First is exalted, so full of poise it seems about to burst. AM Flares is electric, as voices quiver with expectation. And so each subsequent piece exceeds.
Absorb it all. Music remains quintessentially excellent in 2026.
