Magazine Sixty Music Review with Simon Dalzell

Greg Fenton reviews Simon Dalzell – Forgotten Dreams – The Freebooter Lounge

Pay close attention to the drums here as they are worth repeating. Again, this is another gem of a release from the label, crisscrossing boundaries and notions of what is and what shouldn’t be. In this instance, Simon Dalzell excites the nervous system with cool electric piano, those drums plus joyful rotating bass and bigtime synthesisers sounding supremely 1980’s, or could that be 1970’s, swirling in abundance, setting the rhythms on fire. That’s before the melodic breath of voices and fizzy, almost Acid sequences join the party.

Complemented by a tougher Stayin’ Low Remix, the whole thing is reimagined entirely, featuring more energetic percussion that crashes down over shimmering expanses of keyboards.
