Magazine Sixty Music Review with Spanna

Greg Fenton reviews Spanna – Bring The Beat Back – The Freebooter Lounge

Bring The Beat Back might sound like a bunch of clichéd phrases, but in Spanna’s view, the rhetoric is turned upside down by a series of tough beats, Latin-influenced bass, and a mix of sounds bouncing around a hot stereo. It’s easy to love.

Psychedelic Boys and Girls once again redefine the script with music that feels somehow familiar yet carves out its own, more distinctive space as influences blend to create. Leaving the oddball, rave–era (copyright) stabs of From Another Planet to twist the narrative while saving the best for last, The Backroom evokes something possibly from the early 90s that doesn’t easily fit the mould. I suppose that’s part of the point and the joy of it; after all, the heartwarming melodic burst of musicality within the romance of the sample is hard to beat, provoking a quiet anthem-like atmospheric release. Another outstanding piece of artwork too.
