Greg Fenton reviews Stablematic – Shapes EP – Recline Music
Nothing quite notifies summer like the warm combination of a cool, electric piano and a relaxed drum shuffle. Although perhaps it’s also down to the blue sky outside nurturing the notion. The four tracks that make up this EP all highlight the memory of soul and reflective moments, none more so than the closing downtempo vibes of 6 AM, which cause the words beach and lounge to float by in a breeze of tasteful, emotional tones.
Gold Box is the punchiest, with flickering hi-hats driving a more upbeat tempo, as infectious, almost understated hints of musicality serve the intended atmosphere nicely. But back to the beginning and the replenishing, Cryogenic, with its soft-paced keys gathering intention as the music evolves, evokes happy times and what could be excitement in store.
