Greg Fenton reviews Strangebird~Sounds – Minerals From the Crust – Audiobulb Records

Sometimes music doesn’t always suggest a direct answer to the question being posed. Minerals From the Crust is as much about tuning in as it is about letting go. It remains, however, an involving, welcoming listen, as if the keys were being played directly in front of you, letting you hear and see how the patterns and notes, as shapes, evolve in real time.

It’s very much about the musicality employed across this selection of pieces, which are at once ambient yet pulse with a searing delight ignited by the joys of modular synthesis – you know what I’m talking about. Worlds are created that, in a way, are neither retrospective nor futuristic, just observed here and now, which is also part of the endearing charm of Gregory Geerts’ creative flair. I’ll not say much more, apart from noting that turning off the lights or, conversely, opening the window and soaking up this rich array of sounds may play havoc with your senses. I do particularly like Azurite and Calcite. How about you?
