Greg Fenton reviews Tm Shuffle – Soulful Dubs 03 – Soulful Dubs
Breathing life into jazzy essence, a collaboration between Tm Shuffle (Vuo Records), Monoder and Tapani Rinne refocuses and retunes a series of Dub sensibilities in Kaipaus, forming two versions. As much as the drums drive purposefully forward, the saxophone-inspired instrumentation weaves an intricate layer of sounds and rhythms into the mix, subtle yet hard-hitting, certainly powerful.
Next, the combination of Tapani Rinne alongside Tm Shuffle reworks the elements with haunting sax, which feels more prominent, while the enhanced bass adds a robust stab to the heart. Again, there is a range of thoughtful, delicate keys at play here, adding intrigue to the arrangement. The relaxed, sassy shuffle of the absorbing Vänkä 6/4 Version offers a cool alternative while striving for excellence through a brilliant assortment of percussive flair and smooth, breathy music.
