Greg Fenton reviews Tripmastaz – Tortured Soul – Adam’s Bite

Hot wiring funk to technological mastery is, as ever, Tripmastaz’s specific trademark, exercising the excitement of sounds just as he does the endless possibilities of electronic discourse. GFK’s Dream begins exploring a diverse range of styles, incorporating them all under one groove to keep the flame burning. Followed by the deeper, more thoughtful, beautifully crafted, Paranoic Paranormal (the clue is in the name), which sequences a tighter expanse of rhythms together with fizzy, modular impressions and a drum section that truly bites.

Tortured Soul then proceeds to play fast and loose with time and space, allowing for movement and sensory stimulation in equal measure. The final number, the intensely involving Gully Sunday, introduces a flicker of warmer melody into its quietly haunting arrangement, exciting atmospheric release and the prospect of creative freedom.
