Two stunning pieces of music join together to cement this outstanding release from Phil Kieran. I use the word stunning because this will probably sound like nothing else you have listened to presently capturing worlds outside of the everyday. While it’s tempting to use the word cosmic, especially considering the fizzy electronic modulations of Ghia, there remains a brutal reality in the tone of the instrumentation which feels like street corners on edge and grainy, very much reflective of the turmoil of the seasons as they collide. Strange then to suggest in contrast that Karmann is indeed uplifting. It is but only when processed through the mangle of fiery synthesizers so creatively interrogated by the artist that they then illicit the temptation of danger and promise.
