Greg Fenton reviews Dead-Tones and Of the Moon & Nasser (US) – Wake Up – Sum Over Histories
A brilliantly vibrant record simmering with electric energy and the spirit of long-lost Punk ideals. Wake Up crackles with riffs, piano stabs, and heavy guitar chords while voices resonate across the arena of passionate discourse. It is loud and deserves to be played accordingly.
Where Do We Go takes a more distinctly electronic route this time, driven by a funky burst of 80s-style synths and effects, yet remains full of edge with a resolute undertone of danger. Complemented by a remix from Echonomist, which emphasises the sleazier, deadpan elements of the vocals while weaving a touch of Acid into the arrangement, hinting at both classic Chicago and Detroit.
