Greg Fenton reviews Qrion & Spencer Brown – MT.DS EP – Last Night On Earth
The snippet of warm ambience greets you as MT.DS begins to mess with your senses, and what happens next is anything but a floating state of mind. Fiery staccato bass and quick-fire synth oscillators ignite excitement in this forward-thinking production, always generating surprises as it bends and tears at the rules. This robust yet sensual instrumental is very much about the quality of sonic release, as atmospheres are teased and transformed across its duration through moods and mind-altering sequences.
Lost Project expands on those themes with a more sensual approach, as organic bass is underpinned by a horizon of swirling sounds, a colourful array of arpeggios, and exotic rhythms courtesy of chimes and rigorous tom-fuelled pulses. There is also a contrasting series of beautiful chords to savour in the intro.
